Field/ Figurative Modelling

img_1255

For the third day in field we did and introduction into slip (water down clay that makes a thick paste that sits more like a liquid than a solid) casting and using it on objects that would be connected to the figure, i used a dress and found this very interesting to put into the slip as the creases became stronger and the dress also lost its identity, as the slip started slipping off it left drip marks along the dress and i found that it added to the texture and then made a new identity for the dress. I also did a mop head, a sock and some plastic. i found the mop head interesting as all the strands of fabric were covered in slip it reminded me of a mythological creature. learning how to slip cast object has been very insightful and opened up a new skill for me as ill like to further this process in my practice work.
